Muscovy bathing in lake

Male muscovy duck

Muscovy ducks spend a great deal of time vigorously bathing, which includes rapidly dunking their heads in the water over and over and over again, before they finally emerge from the water, flap their big wings and then proceed to preen themselves. While it seems to be a nightly ritual, they do this at other times through the day as well, particularly after mating in the water with another duck.

The photos above depict a duck I know of as The King of Caruncles during and after his little bathing ritual.
