Zebra longwing

Zebra longwing caterpillar hanging upside down from tomato stake before forming its chrysalis.

Here's a side of the zebra longwing caterpillars that I am seeing much more of recently.

When I stuck a tomato stake in the ground so the passion vine would have something to cling to as it grew upward, I didn't really imagine that it would become a hanging station for zebra longwing chrysalides. But it seems to be working out well for them.

The caterpillar has since formed its chrysalis, as have at least a dozen others. I am looking forward to seeing them emerge as butterflies.
